Obituary to the death of Mrs. Rosy Brook-Risse
On 16th November 2009 the Grand Dame of Rhodesian
Ridgeback breeding
Mrs. Rosy Brook-Risse died at the age of 93 years in
Solingen.
Mrs. Rosy Brook-Risse doubtelessly belonged
to the most famous supporters, breeders and lovers of the breed Rhodesian
Ridgeback worldwide.
With her death we lose a committed cynologist who is
known for her special contribution for the breed Rhodesian Ridgeback.
In
1949 she bought her first Ridgeback in Rhodesia today's Zimbabwe, where
she lived together with her husband near the mountain Johokwe until 1955.
She registered her kennel "JOHOKWE" in South Africa and the USA in 1952
and later - in 1967 at VDH and the FCI.
Many important dogs came from that
kennel and "JOHOKWEBLOOD" can still be found in many genealogical tables
worldwide today.
In 1954 Mrs. Rosy Brook-Risse bought the
male dog "Rhodus", which she called CHAKA, from Miss Mabel Wellings in
Bulawayo.
CHAKA became world champion in Dortmund in 1956.
Rosy
Brook-Risse definitely is a pioneer of the breed.Together with the kennel
"Aus dem Skaaprevier" she created the base for the steady development of
the breed Rhodesian Ridgeback in Germany and Europe
with passion and
endless commitment.
Despite of many awards in recognition of
her work she received the "Baron von Gingis-Medal"
of the VDH in 2008.
We could always count on Rosy - as we all
were allowed to call her. We met her at every impotant exhibition at home
and abroad, where everyone knew her, even in the USA and of course in
Africa.
Mrs. Rosy Brook-Risse was a member of many Rhodesian Ridgeback
clubs worldwide and she was their tireless supporter. She has contributed
greatly to the club-life in Germany. The Information stand at the European and
Bundes - champion exhibition in Dortmund, which she was responsible for
together with Mrs. Heller, was a popular meeting point for interested
people and friends of the breed. She loved sharing her precious
experiences to the so called "beginners" and never stopped staying in
contact with the important breeders of the whole world.
Rosy loved decent
and sociable get-togethers with her Ridgeback friends who were her family.
She was always up for a good time, drinking a glass of red wine with her
promised to be fun listening to her
interesting stories about the
beginning of the Rhodesian Ridgeback breeding and enjoying her
personality.
With the death of Rosy Brook-Risse the
Ridgeback family worldwide does not just lose a beloved friend, a
marvellous supporter and expert of the breed but also a bright, modest and
in the same way such a
generous person who was an idol for so many people.
We will keep the memory of Rosy Brook-Risse and honour and try to pass on
the message of that outstandingpersonality.
We do thank you dear Rosy! You will live on
in our memories and hearts.
On behalf of all your Rhodesian Ridgeback
friends worldwide
Dres. Juliane and Steffen Schock
